Palmetto Dunes Resort is served by a full time "in-house" security staff that is trained and equipped to handle most every security related issue in Palmetto Dunes. This staff of approximately 40 employees is SLED (South Carolina Law Enforcement Division) certified which gives the same authority to the Palmetto Dunes officers as the Beaufort County Sheriffs Department possesses.
Palmetto Dunes security personnel have arrest powers as well as the ability to write a South Carolina traffic citation. The Patrol Division within the security department utilizes six patrol vehicles on a 24 hour basis. These officers are armed with 40 mm Glock handguns and are weapons certified. Additionally, PD Security is also composed of Gate Officers and a Bicycle Patrol. Just recently, a Wildlife Officer was added to the department. Each of these divisiions within Security is an integral part of the total make-up of Palmetto Dunes and each provides a distinct and valuable service to the community.
The PD Security Department strives to operate as a "resort friendly" police force. These ladies and men are committed to providing a climate of "safety and welfare" for our residents and their guests. All traffic stops as well as any interactions with these personnel are audio taped and some are video taped. Additionally, all phone conversations to and from the security office are recorded. This is done for the protection of all parties combined.
